Warner Brothers Studios based in Burbank, CA approached ISBX with the goal of launching an interactive, character-driven, iOS application for its upcoming title, Happy Feet Two. On the heels of a $380M box office of the original Happy Feet, Warner Brothers desired to create an application that would further increase immersion into the brand and serve as a promotional tool by incorporating a Facebook sharing feature with a link to download the application.
ISBX was met with a particularly challenging request - enabling a users interaction with characters that were entirely animated and rendered in computer graphics, thereby rendering obsolete the traditional avenues of using a green screen recording of the talent or frame by frame animation of a cartoon character. The additional challenge revolved around the complexity of the proposed hero character for the app - a feature film quality rigged and modeled character, that had to then be stripped of its defining qualities, and re-designed from the ground up. This meant that things like the texture of basecoat, the fur, the lighting and the movement of the character itself had to be designed and animated by ISBX and its team with the eventual requirement to handle animations for a dozen unique actions, interactive responses and gestures.
